Mr. Mingma Sherpa, the Managing Director of WWF’s Eastern Himalayas Region that covers Nepal, India, and Bhutan, was one of the 24 people on board a WWF helicopter which crashed in eastern Nepal last Saturday.  Mingma was an internationally renowned conservationist, and had been working in WWF’s American branch for more than 15 years.  He mobilized global resources and world opinion to help the Himalayan region.  “He and other WWF staff members who died in the same incident had dedicated their lives to conserving the extraordinary natural resources of Nepal and the Earth.  Their deaths are a huge blow to conservation efforts in Nepal, and worldwide”, said James Leape, the Director General, WWF.

Mingma lived in Falls Church, Virginia with his family.  He is survived by his wife, a daughter, and a son.  The entire Nepali Community is deeply saddened by the loss of this wonderful friend and a great community member.  He holds a very special place in our hearts.
