Former SP Chandra Bir Rai, 79 and driver Purna Bahadur Maharjan, 67 deposed against the murder case filed against the international serial killer Charles Sobraj at the Supreme Court yesterday. Charles was charged with a murder of two foreign nationals, Connie Jo Bronzich(American) and Laurent Armand Carriere(Canadanian). The duo, prime witnesses in the case told the apex court that they had met Charles Sobraj then and that he was responsible for the murder. Rai had interrogated Sobhraj in 1975 in the murder case and later reported the Ministry of Home Affairs, seeking his extradition from India and Maharjan had driven him in Kathmandu in a car belonging to Gorkha Travels."Sobhraj had visited Nepal then; his claim that he did not visit Nepal before 2003 is false," Rai said speaking to reporters. Rai also claimed that Sobraj visited Nepal several times, and was interrogated in connection with the murder. Though, even Rai wasn’t convinced that it could have been Sobraj who murdered the foreign nationals, investigation led to the conclusion that it was irrefutably Sobraj who killed them.
